PHOENIX — The college football bowl game played in Tempe, Ariz. has a new name: the Cactus Bowl.
“Our new name represents an iconic symbol for the state of Arizona,” said Cactus Bowl Executive Director Mike Nealy in a press release. “The name will also resonate with the thousands of fans traveling to the Southwest to experience our great bowl game and unmatched hospitality.”
The Cactus Bowl will be played Jan. 2, 2015 at Sun Devil Stadium. It will feature the sixth selection from the Pac-12 Conference and the fifth pick from the Big 12 Conference.
The game was known as the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl for two years but the restaurant chain pulled its sponsorship earlier this year.
The bowl, also formerly known as the Insight Bowl and Copper Bowl, is owned by the Fiesta Bowl, which also lost its sponsor, Tostitos, earlier this year.
