Veronica Huerta Brown disappeared Saturday following the shooting at an apartment complex at the the 4300 block of North Longview Avenue in Phoenix.

Police said Brown, 1-year-old King Richard Paz and the victim, who has only been identified as a male in his 20s, were ordered at gunpoint by an unknown assailant to get out of their vehicle as they pulled into the apartment complex Saturday.

According to police, the suspect ordered the victim to get out of the car and hand over the child. At that point, police said, the suspect grabbed the child and shot the victim several times. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe Brown exited the vehicle at that point and disappeared, but do not have any idea of where she went.

Officer James Holmes with the Phoenix Police Department said they could not release details on how they located King due to the ongoing investigation.

Holmes said the suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 5-feet and 5-feet-two-inches with short or shaved hair. He fled the scene in a 4-door white passenger car, possibly either a Ford Taurus or a Honda.

Police have no motive for the crime, but said that it appears the child was the catalyst for the murder.

Phoenix Police are asking anyone with information to call the Phoenix Police Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141.

We want to hear from you.
