PHOENIX — Military members gathered at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday morning to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United Services Organization.
The organization hosts military members and their families at travel lounges in airports across the country, including Sky Harbor. The group also provides those families with help and support when needed.
“I think we’re a safe haven,” Carla Garcia, director of USO Arizona, said. “I think when they see our logo, they know that the USO is worldwide. Wherever they go, we’re going to be by them.”
Garcia said their outreach to the military also extends beyond the airport.
“We’re in the field with them, providing the necessary morale and lifting their spirits,” Garcia said.
A second USO Arizona location is expected to open in the spring at the Phoenix Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) near Central Avenue and Thomas Road.
