Phoenix Zoo welcomes 6-year-old Komodo dragon

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo announced on Wednesday the arrival of a new Komodo dragon.

The 6-year-old dragon, MacLeod, is being loaned from the San Antonio Zoo. It arrived to Phoenix Zoo last month and can now be seen in the Land of the Dragons Exhibit.

MacLeod has been very active exploring his surroundings and has even taken a swim in his pond.

The exhibit also showcases a Chinese alligator and two juvenile Komodo dragons, which are now a year and a half old.

Komodo dragons are native to volcanic islands in Indonesia and are the world’s largest living lizard, able to reach lengths of up to 10 feet and weights of more than 300 pounds.

We want to hear from you.
