PHOENIX — Gilbert Police said a con artist has been impersonating law enforcement to get credit card numbers or PINs for prepaid debit cards.
The fake officer tells the person on the other end of the line that he or she has a number of unpaid traffic fines or that there is a warrant for their arrest and that his or her driver’s license will be suspended unless the fine is paid.
Gilbert police and court authorities said neither ask for money to be paid over the phone. Police can be contacted at 480-503-6500.
