PHOENIX — Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, will campaign this weekend in Iowa with Hillary Clinton.
Both Giffords and Kelly are scheduled to appear at two events on Saturday — one in Ames and another in Des Moines.
Giffords, who survived being shot in the head in Tucson in 2011, is expected to express her support of Clinton’s stance on gun control.
Clinton’s campaign said the former secretary of state “is committed to supporting sensible actions to address gun violence, including comprehensive background checks, cracking down on illegal gun traffickers, holding dealers and manufacturers accountable when they endanger Americans, and keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and stalkers.”
The former congresswoman officially endorsed Clinton about two weeks ago.
Arizona politicians have been rushing of late to add their names to White House supporter list, though a vast majority are falling on the other side of the aisle from Clinton.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio recently appeared in Iowa to announce his endorsement of Donald Trump and several others, including state Treasurer Jeff DeWitt, have also offered their official support of the New York billionaire.
Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, though she has not formally endorsed Trump, said she expects him to “sweep through” the early Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries.
