PHOENIX — A tax forgiveness program built into last year’s budget turned out to be a windfall for Arizona, Gov. Doug Ducey’s office said Friday.
The program, which waived all penalties and interest for those who owed the state money if they paid during a certain time period, brought in about $47 million.
Ducey’s office originally projected the program would bring in $32 million.
“These are more dollars we are able to invest in priorities that will improve the lives of Arizona citizens,” Ducey said in a release. “Whether it’s K-12 education, universities, child safety or public safety, we are putting new resources into vital state commitments while also ensuring we live within our means.”
The release did not say how much money the state was owed in interested and penalties.
