Phoenix firefighters risk lives to rescue dog from burning house

PHOENIX — Phoenix firefighters ignored heat so intense
that their helmets were barely able to withstand it to rescue a dog from a house fire early Monday morning.

Four teenagers asleep in the house near 61st Avenue and Encanto Boulevard got out safely through bedroom windows. One of the teens woke up to smoke and fire and alerted the others.

A fire department spokesman said the dog was dying when firefighters
found it but after several minutes of oxygen began to revive.

There were no working smoke detectors in the home, which was destroyed.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
