PHOENIX — In an attempt to curb drug abuse and theft, the Peoria Police Department will hold a prescription drug take back.
In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will occur at the Peoria Police Department Administration Building on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Unused prescriptions in home medicine cabinets are “highly susceptible to misuse, theft and abuse,” according to a press release. Studies also show that a majority of prescription drug abusers obtained drugs from friends or family members.
Since prescription take-backs began in 2010, over 2 million pounds of pills have been turned in.
