TEMPE, Ariz. — Two people escaped uninjured from a second-story apartment fire Monday morning in Tempe.
The fire was kept to the one unit at a complex near Broadway Road and Mill Avenue.
Hunter Atha, who lives next door to the burned apartment, said he woke up to pounding on his door telling him to get out. He watched his neighbors make it to safety.
“They had a ladder hoisted up to them and I saw them escape from the bedroom window climbing down the ladder. There was a lot of smoke,” he said.
