PHOENIX — Hundreds of bikers are on a 177-mile ride around southeastern Arizona for the 11th annual Firefighter Charity Ride.
The ride benefits the East Valley Firefighters Charities Foundation. The nonprofit puts together several events throughout the year and extends a helping hand to many organizations.
“Muscular Dystrophy, Child Crisis Center, Arizona Burn Foundation to name a few,” spokesman Steve Heyer said of the groups that the charity aids. “We adopt 100 children for Christmas, we adopt a school in each one of our neighborhoods and take the kids to a fire station for a barbeque then a Diamondbacks game. We’re very involved the community we work and live in.”
The popular event “started with 38 participants. This year 600 bikers preregistered,” Heyer said.
The ride will stop in Globe, Santan and Gilbert before it wraps up at Phoenix Bikefest at Wild Horse Pass and Casino at approximately 4:30 p.m.
