Officer shoots suspect on reservation east of Phoenix

PHOENIX — An officer-involved shooting on reservation land closed a highway east of Phoenix overnight.

The shooting occurred Wednesday night on the San Carlos Indian Reservation east of Globe. Authorities shut down U.S. 70, the main route that connects Globe with the Safford area.

A suspect was reportedly shot and airlifted to a Phoenix hospital. No other details were available.

The San Carlos Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and the FBI are working on the investigation.
