Waste Management Phoenix Open looking for volunteers to promote zero waste

PHOENIX — Officials with the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale are looking for approximately 150 volunteers from Feb. 4 to 7 to promote the tournament as a zero-waste event.
Katie Symons, community relations specialist for Waste Management, said volunteers will be sorting material since there will be no trash cans along the course, only recycling and compost bins.
“Volunteers will be helping to sort material properly in the compost bins and recycling bins,” she said.
Volunteers will also have the chance to educate fans about recycling and the ways they can be more green in their daily lives through fun games such as Spin the Wheel.
Symons said each volunteer will work a three to four hour shift and can work multiple shifts. For each shift worked, volunteers will get some nice perks.
“We are offering a free walking pass,” Symons said. “Volunteers can come back then and enjoy the tournament any other day of the week for free.”
Symons said in addition to the walking pass, volunteers also get a meal ticket for each shift.
Last year’s Phoenix Open achieved zero-waste for the third year in a row.
