PHOENIX — Mayor Greg Stanton made his eighth trip of his term to Mexico City on Thursday in hopes of securing a permanent Mexican trade office in Phoenix.
“I’ll have the unique opportunity to meet with the mayor of Mexico City so that I’ll have the opportunity to talk about some unique city opportunities between Phoenix and Mexico City,” he said.
Stanton said a Mexican trade and tourism office would bear nothing but benefits for Phoenix.
“They have a growing middle class,” he said. “The president of Mexico is making some significant reforms to their economy which will allow for more foreign investment.”
Stanton said he will also attempt to get Volaris, a Mexican airline, to increase flights from the Valley.
