PHOENIX — One man was killed and a Phoenix police officer sustained minor injuries in a shooting Thursday.

The shooting took place near 51st Street and Virginia.

Police said the shooting arose out of a domestic disturbance call involving a father and son.

“When they (officers) got there, there was an altercation involving an adult male,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. “That man was shot.”

Police said the male suspect was killed by the officer. His identity has not been released.

The officer was hospitalized and Thompson said the injuries are minor and non-life threatening.
