Arizona AG running anti-human trafficking ads in Times Square, Glendale

Jan 4, 2016, 3:59 PM

PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich is running anti-human trafficking ads in both New York City and Glendale, Arizona ahead of next week’s college football championship game, his office announced Monday.

“Big sporting events draw pimps and underage prostitution into the state,” Brnovich said in a release. “While we welcome college football fans, I want to make it clear that sex trafficking and prostitution will not be tolerated.”

The ads will be seen on two billboards in New York City’s Times Square — one of the most-visited spots on the planet — and one billboard in Glendale’s Westgate Entertainment District adjacent to University of Phoenix Stadium, where the national title game will be played.

The billboards all feature the same slogan: “Paying for sex can get you flagged…for the rest of your life.”

Brnovich said the signs are intended to raise awareness about human trafficking.

“We want to make sure that they know, one, this is not a victimless crime and two, you can be prosecuted and you can end up with lifelong consequences for buying sex,” he said.

The ads, which were paid for by a private donation, will run through Jan. 11, when the national championship game between Alabama and Clemson will be played.
