Fire crews respond to emergency call at Phoenix airport

PHOENIX — Fire crews responded Monday to an emergency report of smoke on an airplane at Sky Harbor Airport, forcing passengers off a flight bound for El Paso, Texas.
Airport spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez said firefighters didn’t find any sign of smoke on the American Airlines Eagle plane at Terminal Four.
American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein said passengers had been boarding Flight 5594 operated by Mesa Airlines.
At least four fire trucks responded.
There was no word how many, if any, flights were delayed.
American Air Eagle is a regional carrier for the airline, which merged with Tempe-based US Airways last year.
