PHOENIX — Calling all believers in aliens and unidentified flying objects: The world’s largest UFO conference got underway Wednesday in Fountain Hills, Ariz.
The International UFO Congress will feature plenty of speakers, some of whom are former employees of both the U.S. military and NASA.
“For five days, we have speakers that speak on the science of extraterrestrial life to alien abduction,” said Alejandro Rojas, a Tempe, Ariz.-based UFO journalist.
Rojas said his field is often mocked.
“A lot of people think that the people interested in this topic are kind of strange,” he said, adding that the speakers they have invited are primarily mainstream scientists with interest in the field.
“Not only do we have very credible people talking, we have very credible people that research this field,” he said.
In addition to the speakers, the Science Channel is expected to premier several UFO-related shows.
The public is invited to attend lectures, but there is a charge. Rojas said a vendor room would be free to enter about noon on Saturday and Sunday.
