PHOENIX – Fire Captain Mike Billingsley said it sounded ‘horrific’. Just before 7 a.m. rescuers got a call about a fiery crash involving a city bus near 79th Avenue and Thomas Road.
“The city bus was making a left-hand turn and the car crashed into the back of the city bus,” he said. “And, at that point the car burst into flames.”
Billingsley said bystanders jumped into action and pulled the driver of the car out.
“We’re blessed to have many people that are around and willing to help when situations go down like this,” he said. “You never know when you have a situation that you’re going to have to react to and thank goodness these people did what they could.”
A front-seat passenger in the car was also trapped in the burning car. Phoenix firefighters freed the passenger who was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition. No other information about the victims is currently available. No one on the bus was hurt. Phoenix Police are now investigating.
