PHOENIX — At least one person has died in a accident on Riggs Road at eastbound Interstate 10 on Thursday morning.

Police had stopped a vehicle on the Gila River Reservation when the passengers fled. Both the Arizona Department of Public Transportation and the Gila River Police Department searched for the suspects, believed to be undocumented immigrants, for about 45 minutes.

When one of the suspects was located, he ran into traffic on Riggs Road, where he was struck and killed.

The street has shut down while several law enforcement agencies investigate.
