PHOENIX — Dozens of protesters opposed to President Obama’s plan to bring 10,000 Syrian refugees to the United States gathered at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix on Saturday.
The protesters fear that terrorists may be among those refugees who come from Syria. Protester Goldie Murphy said that anyone who doesn’t believe that is naïve.
“Your mind is not with it. You don’t understand what’s going on in your country, in your world, in your life,” Murphy said. “When those people start taking over, and they start cutting off heads here in the United States of America, you’re going to stand back and say ‘oh…duh! I should have listened!”
Murphy pointed out that Arizona already has experience with terrorists coming into the state.
“We (had) terrorists (training here) who took down (the World Trade Center and the Pentagon) on 9-11. Why in the world would anybody want to bring them back in here?”
Murphy thinks that President Obama has another motive for letting the refugees in.
“He wants America to fall,” she said. “He wants this to happen. He wants these refugees brought in here because when something happens, he can claim Martial law. When that happens, we’re doomed.”
The protesters say that protecting Americans should be Obama’s biggest concern, even though they sympathize with the plight of the Syrian refugees.
Others dressed in black clothing were there to counter-protest. A man who did not wish to be identified said that Murphy and other members of her group are lying when they say they are sympathetic to the refugees.
“These protesters are here on behalf of keeping the refugees out of this country, and they’re pretty much telling them to (expletive) off and die,” the man said. “So how can they be sympathizing with the refugees?”
Murphy said that the answer is to elect Donald Trump as President and to see if he makes good on his promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
