PHOENIX — Arizona is among the top five states in the rate of women murdered by men, according to a new study.
Analysis by the Washington-based Violence Policy Center, which in May reported that gun deaths in Arizona surpassed traffic deaths, showed that Arizona is No. 5, with a rate of 1.84 women (60 per 100,000) killed by men in 2011. South Carolina is the worst, with a rate of 2.54. Alaska is next at 2.01, Oklahoma, 1.99 and Delaware at 1.92 also precede Arizona.
The study used homicide information from the FBI.
October is national Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
