Dogs rescued from suspected puppy mill near Phoenix still recovering

PHOENIX — The 130 animals rescued from a suspected puppy mill near Phoenix this week were still recovering Thursday, according to authorities.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office animal rescue unit saved the animals Tuesday from a home in Tonopah, west of Phoenix.
The unit was being flooded with calls and emails from people asking about the dogs, mostly pugs and French bulldogs. The animals were being treated and looked after by veterinarians and won’t be available for adoption anytime soon.
“All these animals were in deplorable conditions and will not be medically cleared for some time,” Officer Chris Hegstrom tweeted.

Those interested in adopting the dogs were encouraged to check the rescue unit’s Facebook page and the MASH unit website, where updates will be provided, including when the dogs have been medically cleared.
No charges have been filed against the owners.
