PHOENIX — Christmas is here and it is finally time to spread the cheer: Prescott National Forest announced last Friday it will be selling 450 over-the-counter Christmas tree permits this holiday season, according to a recent press release.

Starting Tuesday, the Prescott National Forest will sell the permits at the Bradshaw Ranger and Verde Ranger Districts Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the Chino Valley Ranger District Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

These permits will give customers the ability to cut down specific species of trees from designated areas between Nov. 17 and 24. Each household can purchase up to five permits, which will allow them to cut a tree up to 10 feet tall.

The permits will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and can be purchased with cash, check or credit card.

To keep your tree as Christmas-y as possible, forest officials recommend cutting two inches off the bottom of the tree and placing it in water, watering it and keeping it in shade until you’re ready to decorate.
