Lake levels to be good for holiday boaters

PHOENIX — Arizona might be in a drought, but reservoirs are doing exactly what they’re supposed to do, a Salt River Project official said.

SRP Senior Hydrologist Tim Skarupa said a wet 2010 turned out to be a blessing for boaters three years later.

Currently, reservoirs are at 55 percent capacity, which means there plenty of water for boaters.

“There shouldn’t be any real issues with recreation this weekend,” said Skarupa.

Skarupa said that Horseshoe lake is dry this time of year. Water levels at Lake Powell, which is on the Arizona-Utah border, are low and boaters there being urged to launch at their own risk.
