TEMPE, Ariz. — Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced a new coalition Friday designed to address critical issues faced by the state’s veteran community.
McCain made the announcement at Nichols Precision, a veteran-owned business that makes parts for the aerospace and defense industries. One of the coalition’s co-chairs, Navy veteran Heather Johnson, stressed the importance of helping veterans and their families.
“I think a lot of people lose sight of the fact that not only do our veterans deserve our support and advocacy, but their families do as well,” she said.
Another co-chair, Marine Corps veteran Rick Erickson, said he appreciates McCain’s commitment to helping veterans re-enter the workforce.
“There are a number of barriers our service members face when transitioning to civilian life,” Erickson said. “[McCain] has dedicated his career to ensuring quality jobs are available for our men and women in uniform.”
McCain said there will be a bigger ceremony in the future to mark the start of the veterans coalition.
