Faith in Humanity: Elderly Valley woman climbs high to help kids

Hiking is a popular activity for Phoenicians, but for 85-year-old Anne Lorimor, it’s a calling that she’s using to benefit underprivileged kids.
Lorimor — who became the oldest woman to summit Mount Kilimanjaro earlier this year — is using her climbs to raise money for the Challenge Youth Fund, a charity she founded in 2004 to help children reach their full potential and change the world.
Lorimor’s fund, part of the Arizona Community Foundation, offers children — particularly those who are in the foster system, orphans or homeless — education and mentoring opportunities.
While Lorimor is currently focused on helping children, she’s considering climbing Kilimanjaro in two years. At 87, she would become the oldest person ever to do so.
Lorimor’s fund accepts donations online.
