PHOENIX — Arizonans looking to travel to the city of soul food and rock n’ roll are in luck: American Airlines announced a new nonstop service between Phoenix and Memphis on Wednesday, according to a recent press release.

Flights will travel one time each day between the Memphis International Airport and Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport beginning March 3, 2016.

Flights will depart from Memphis at 6:30 a.m. MST and arrive in Phoenix at 8:09 a.m. MST. Flights travelling to Memphis will leave at 5:50 p.m. MST and arrive at 10:42 p.m. MST.

Tickets to board the 76-seat Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft will go on sale Nov. 14.

Chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners Pace Cooper said the change came due to overwhelming demand from Memphis passengers to travel to the West.

“For some time, our passengers have told us that they want more connectivity to the West,” he said in the press release. “Today’s announcement is one that our passengers will undoubtedly welcome.”

MSCAA President and CEO Scott Brockman called the service “one of our most significant service additions in recent memory” in the press release.

American Airlines has been in the Memphis community for decades, Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. said, and this move is planned to enhance opportunity in the area.

“The additional nonstop service to Phoenix will certainly enhance business and pleasure travel opportunities at Memphis International Airport,” he said in the press release.
