In the books: July in Phoenix ranks as 10th warmest, 16th wettest

PHOENIX — The National Weather Service said July in the Valley averaged 95.7 degrees, ranking No. 10 all time for temeperature.
The warmest July was 2009, which had an average of 98.3 degrees.
It was also the 16th-wettest July on record, with 1.77 inches of rain — normal is 1.05. The wettest July was in 1911 with 6.47 inches.
Charlotte Dewey, a spokeswoman with the National Weather Service, said Phoenix has received 4.38 inches of rainfall this year, just above the usual 4.28 inches for January through July.
