PHOENIX — Two Arizona universities made a strong showing on a military news group’s annual list of best colleges for veterans.

Arizona State University came in at No. 33 out of 175 schools on the Military Times’ 2016 list released Monday.

Northern Arizona also made the list at No. 66.

Each school was evaluated through “a rigorous, more-than-120-question survey,” the Times said.

ASU serves more than 4,000 military-affiliated students and around 1,000 military families, according to ASU News.

For the first time in the ranking’s history, “a majority of schools — around 57 percent — were able to provide at least one type of veteran-specific academic outcome data metric, such as retention, graduation or course completion rates,” the military news site said.

“The data showed military and veteran students succeeding at rates roughly in line with their nonveteran peers — despite the greater obstacles to academic success that veterans often face.”

ASU is celebrating veterans and active military members through the school’s celebration of Veterans Day, which began Oct. 29 and ends Nov. 13.

Salute to Service 2015 events include a Veterans Day meal, morning coffee with veterans and active military members and the annual Reading of the Names.

NAU earned a top 30 spot on the 2015 list.
