PHOENIX — Call of Duty Black Ops III hit stores Friday and a Phoenix police officer’s face was featured in the game.

Andy McDermott, 40, was full-time officer for eight years, often times on the tactical response unit, and is currently a reserve officer. He’s a gold medalist in the Toughest Competitor Alive event at the U.S. Police and Fire Championships and has been a certified personal trainer for 15 years. He’s not all braun either — McDermott has written and created videos for Muscle and Fitness Magazine, Men’s Fitness Magazine and GNC.

McDermott has been “chasing that crazy, sensless dream” of becoming an actor in Los Angeles, and when his agent found out the team at Call of Duty was looking for someone with a tactical background, it was an easy match.

The one shot used for the game took over three days and thousands of images, according to McDermott. He’s the “cover art guy” for marketing and even has a building-sized ad by LA Live and a parking garage by LAX. He had no idea what images would be used and was told to keep everything top secret.

“I’m way cooler digitally so I’m grateful to have gotten the gig,” McDermott said.
