Authorities in Arizona made 70 arrests of non-compliant sex offenders in the month of October, according to a release by the U.S. Marshal’s office.
Operation Safe Treat 2015 included 32 arrests for sex offense or assault charges, 23 for failure to register, eight for child molestation, four for child abuse or neglect, one for aggravated assault and two arrests of convicted sex offenders wanted on other charges.
“I commend our partners at the U.S. Marshals Service for their efforts to ensure that registered sex offenders are complying with their court ordered requirements” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said in a statement. “My office will be equally as diligent in prosecuting those who seek to avoid accountability for their criminal actions and who pose a continued threat to the community.”
The U.S. Marshals office cleared 83 warrants as part of the project.
Operation Safe Treat’s goal was to “ensure that the seasons’ celebration remain a safe and enjoyable holiday for children,” according to the U.S. Marshal’s release.
