Vigil held for fallen Phoenix firefighter

May 20, 2013, 9:24 AM

PHOENIX — A young Phoenix firefighter’s life ended far too soon over the weekend and Monday morning family, firefighters and friends remembered Bradley Harper with a prayer vigil.

The vigil was held at Northwest Christian School near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road. Prayers were said for Harper, 23, who had been on the job for two years.

Harper died in a work-related accident Saturday night, after being pinned between an ambulance and a fire truck.

Monica Netzel has been a friend of the Harper family for years and said all Harper wanted was to be a firefighter. He had married his high school sweetheart in December.

“An amazing family. He had a precious wife who has been through a lot herself but this family will get through it.”

Those gathered also said prayers for the family and friends of Phoenix police officer Daryl Raetz, 29, who was killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning.

We want to hear from you.
