Economist gives Arizona economy mixed review

PHOENIX — Arizona’s economy is not doing incredibly, but it isn’t in the dumps, a Valley economist said.
The state’s job growth was expected to be around three percent this year. Arizona State University economist Lee McPheeters said innefective national growh policies are causing the state to fall a little short.
“We’re anticipating at best a 2.5 percent job growth,” he said. “That’s something in the range of 60,000 to 61,000 jobs created, when we have an economy that has the potential to create 90,000 if we were in a more normal environment.”
On the plus side, Arizona’s population grew by just over 1 percent last year. That’s not much, but only Texas and Florida attracted more people who moved to the state for a job last year.
