Phoenix teacher charged with sex abuse of student

PHOENIX — A 26-year-old Phoenix teacher is behind bars Thursday, accused of having had a sexual relationship with a then-minor student.
David Trujillo was booked on 15 counts of sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of sexual abuse. The boy was a student at Mountain Pointe High School.
Trujillo has been a dance and drama instructor at other local schools, as well as a private dance studio.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said Trujillo was a volunteer teacher at the school in the southeast Phoenix neighborhood of Ahwatukee. Police spoke with a then-17-year-old boy about the relationship last year. He denied it.
“(Wednesday) the parents came forward and said their son, now an adult … told them he had an inappropriate relationship with Trujillo,” Thompson said.
Police said Trujillo was taken into custody at his home and transported to police headquarters, where he was interviewed by detectives from the Crimes Against Children Unit.
