PHOENIX — Sex crimes investigators with the Phoenix Police Department are focusing on capturing a violent rapist who targeted an elderly woman inside her home.
“In nine years working in sex crimes, I haven’t seen a case more concerning than this one,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Darren Burch. “It scares me, quite frankly, that he’s out there.”
On April 14, about 5:30 a.m., the suspect knocked on the door then forced his way into the victim’s home in the neighborhood of 5700 West Thomas Road and raped her. The suspect also hit the victim during the crime and then left the home in an unknown direction.
The unidentified victim is 89.
