Multiple children were injured in a Monday afternoon wreck on Interstate 10.
According to Carrick Cook with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, seven children and two adults were injured in the crash.
“We’re still trying to determine the cause, but for whatever reason, the driver, a female, lost control and went off-right into the landscaping area.”
Cook said the vehicle rolled and the driver was ejected. She is in critical condition.
Three of the children had “significant” injuries. The other four had minor to moderate injuries. All were taken to local hospitals.
Cook said the children were between the ages of three and seven. Arizona law requires child seats for children up to five and booster seats, with certain height and weight restrictions, until age seven.
The crash shutdown the right lanes of eastbound I-10 at 35th Avenue. They were all reopened by 5 p.m.
