After big winds hit Phoenix, replace air filter

PHOENIX — The wind that swept through the Valley Monday kicked up a lot of dirt and dust. And that could be bad for an air conditioner.
Even if homeowners had popped in a new filter before the blustery day, Todd Russo with Reeis Inc., an air- conditioning and energy-efficiency company, said the filter needs to changed again.
“What will happen is your filters in the AC system will clog and increase the resistance in the ducts which reduces how much your system can deliver cooler air inside of your house,” he said.
Most air filters run $10-$20. Replacing them is cheaper than repairing a unit that’s working too hard.
