Airport security revises screening rules for wounded warriors

PHOENIX — From now on, military veterans with severe injuries will pass through TSA security checkpoints a little faster.
On Wednesday, the agency announced the new rules, which state that wounded warriors will be able to go through checkpoints without having to remove shoes, light outerwear jackets or hats.
“In addition to that, if they notify us either by email or a phone call, we’re going to meet them at the curb when they get to the airport, escort them to the security checkpoint, and then when they’re done with screening we’re going to escort them to the gate,” said Nico Melendez, TSA spokesman.
Melendez said the changes are not in response to last week’s accusations made by friends of a Marine, who said TSA agents at Sky Harbor made him remove his prosthetic legs.
