PHOENIX — Mayor Greg Stanton on Tuesday released some details of the city’s gun buyback program.
The buybacks will held May 4, 11 and 18 in south Phoenix and the Maryvale and Sunnyslope neighborhoods.
Anyone who turns in a weapon will receive one gift card per weapon. A hand gun, shotgun or rifle will net a $100 gift card, while assault weapons will earn a $200 gift card. High-capacity ammunition magazines that are turned in will also earn a gift card.
Retailers have not been identified yet.
The guns will be run through background checks for use in crimes or if they have been stolen.
Historic weapons will be saved.
