Representative pushes for legislation that would allow virtual congressional hearings

A Congressman introduced legislation that would permit congress to meet in cyberspace.

The Hill reported that New Mexico Rep. Steve Pearce introduced a resolution that would let lawmakers hold hearings, debates and legislation votes via video conference.

Pearce explained that the resolution would give lawmakers more time to spend with constituents and abolish the need for lawmakers to go back and forth to Washington on the Weekends.

Thanks to modern technology, members of Congress can debate, vote, and carry out their constitutional duties without having to leave the accountability and personal contact of their congressional districts. Keeping legislators closer to the people we represent would pull back Washington’s curtain and allow constituents to see and feel, first-hand, their government at work,” Pearce told The Hill in a statement.

Pearce believes that a virtual work arrangement would best benefit lawmakers and make them more accountable to citizens in their home districts.
