PHOENIX — Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva is set to become the first congressional endorsement for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Friday.

The announcement is expected to take place at a Tucson rally Sanders and Grijalva are appearing in together – shortly ahead of the first Democratic debate on Oct. 13, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Official word had not yet been issued from either camp, but the website Politico reported “a person familiar with the congressman’s plans” confirmed it.

While the congressional endorsement will be the Vermont senator’s first, fellow Democratic contender Hillary Clinton has already received over 100 endorsements from members of Congress, CNN said.

This will be Sanders’ second stop in Arizona. His previous event drew a crowd of 11,000, as he spoke on topics inclduing immigration, student loan debt and minimum wage.

Grijalva was elected to Congress in 2002 and is the ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee, according to a biography on his website.

Doors will open for the Tucson rally at the Reid Parl DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center at 6 p.m., with the event starting at 7 p.m.
