Christmas is still four days away, but Gilbert residents can already recycle their Christmas trees.
The recycling service is available at Hetchler and Nichols parks.
“We’ll be available at both of these parks, people able to drop off their trees,” said Gilbert Recycling Administrator Joslyn Marty. “These are, of course, trees that would have been, normally, living trees.”
The city is accepting trees through Jan. 7.
“They’ll have these locations at both parks for people to drop off their trees,” said Marty. “Also, we’ll have a bin for for cardboard, anticipating that people will be open boxes and stuff. We’ll also have a special container for Christmas lights.”
Marty said that the recycling is starting now because military families and others may celebrate Christmas early. Businesses that won’t be open next week may want to take their tree down.
On two specific Saturdays, Dec. 29 and Jan. 5, the city will accept electronic waste to be recycled, including TVs, VCRs, DVRs, cell phones and any small electronic appliance that has a cord. The first 128 people to recycle electronics on those day will get a free basic car wash at Full Circle Car Wash.
