The first Arizona Red Cross worker is en route to the eastern seaboard and she isn’t the only one ready to lend a helping hand.
Retired psychologist Martha Iskyan of Fountain Hills will be in New York for the next two to three weeks. She is a veteran of dealing with the aftermath of several hurricanes and knows what aid workers are facing from people who have lost everything.
“They’re distressed. The first thing they always say is ‘What am I going to do?’,” she said.
Iskyan, 66, will supervise mental-health services made available to storm victims. She has been with the Grand Canyon Chapter since the beginning of the year.
Other civilians, like Iskyan, have expressed a willingness to contribute in the Sandy relief efforts.
APS News Center tweeted Wednesday afternoon that more than 30 employees and 15 trucks are planning to travel east to help aid in the Sandy recovery and help the victims who have been affected.
