For 11 hours, Arizona State University student
Jake Balsiger battled it out with two poker pros at the World Series of Poker main event.
Just after 5 a.m. Wednesday his chase for over $8 million ended. The 21-year-old senior lost after playing 382 hands in the overnight marathon. He could have become the youngest Series champion in history.
The political science major, who has vowed to graduate, won $3.8 million for
third place.
He’s got immediate plans.
“I have some homework due tomorrow, my Supreme Court class,” Balsiger said.
“I didn’t do it last week because I was in a final table simulation, so my
professor’s probably not the happiest with me.”
Maryland poker professional Greg Merson, 24, won the main event taking home $8.53 million.
