High levels of mercury have been found on striped bass in the southern part of Lake Powell, the Arizona Department of Game and Fish said.
“The mercury will accumulate over time, so the larger and older fish will carry a larger body-burden of mercury than the younger fish,” said Marc Dahlberg with Game and Fish.
Dahlberg recommended that anglers only eat the smaller bass they caught in the lake to avoid mercury contamination and women of child-bearing age and children eat less than two eight-ounce meals per month.
The striped bass was the only species to test high for mercury.
