A library dedicated to the life of Sen. Barry Goldwater is set to open in Mesa in 2016.
City leaders announced plans on Wednesday morning to build the three-story library in Mesa’s downtown area. Goldwater’s daughter, Peggy Goldwater Clay, said the building will not only celebrate her father’s life, but her mother’s as well.
“His spirit, and mother’s spirit, will be in that library and we so thank the city of Mesa,” she said. “I plan to have a hard hat on as soon as possible.”
Goldwater Clay said her mother was a driving force behind her father.
The library will house Goldwater’s large collection of rare books, Congressional papers and photos. It will also work with presidential museums to display traveling exhibits.
