Five bundles or marijuana worth about $77,000 were seized and one man was arrested during an Oct. 18 traffic stop, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
PCSO deputies contacted a 2005 Buick Rendezvous on Oct. 18 on Interstate 8 for multiple traffic violations. When deputies approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as Hector Torres Adorno, was visibly nervous. The vehicle also had a strong odor of marijuana.
When prompted, 41-year-old Adorno refused to give information about who owned the vehicle and why it smelled so strongly of marijuana.
The deputy spotted what appeared to be bundles of marijuana covered by a blanket. Further investigation revealed five bundles weighing 110 pounds and worth an estimated $77,000.
Adorno was found to have used fake Social Security numbers in the past and had been deported from the United States seven separate times.
Adorno was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on numerous marijuana-related charges. He posted his $50,000 bail and was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
