A baby tarantula finally has a name.
The McDowell Mountain Regional Park has been holding a contest to name a baby tarantula that was brought there after a developer found it at a construction site.
Elivira, Herman, and even Steve were among the names submitted. But they didn’t win.
“We chose Peter Parker,” said Park Ranger Amy Burnett. That’s right — the tarantula is named for the alter ego of the Amazing Spiderman.
Two people submitted the name. Paul Caputo of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Jeremy Soul of Santa Monica, California will both get a copy of the book “Amphibians And Reptiles of Maricopa County” as a prize.
Burnett said the park received 30 entries. “It’s been great. It’s been a lot of fun,” said Burnett. “We love that people are excited about naming our new tarantula, and we hope that people come and check him out. He’s a real cutie.”
