PHOENIX — After one year of planning, the City of El Mirage’s Victim’s Assistance Unit has been implemented to help victims of domestic violence.
According to the city officials, in 2011, El Mirage Police received about 745 domestic violence-related calls.
“Our city, like most cities is largely impacted by domestic violence calls,” said Iva Rody, victim advocate for El Mirage.
“One of the areas we really saw a need was for somebody to be working really closely with victims in our community to help them ensure safety and resources.”
Officials reported receiving positive feedback, including, “victims who reported feeling more empowered to make safe choices and life changes.”
